Simple, flavourful, and versatile Greek Yogurt Pesto Sauce makes a delicious vegetable dip, pasta sauce, salad dressing, or bowl topping. Whip up a big batch and enjoy it all week long.

It’s peak basil season, so I can’t help but to share another recipe that incorporates my nut-free pesto! If you missed my Pesto Salad Dressing recipe, be sure to check that one out, too. This Greek yogurt pesto sauce is a thicker, creamier variation that can definitely be thinned out with some milk to turn it into a creamy salad dressing. I love it as a sauce for any of my bowl recipes, but it would also be a great creamy dressing for a pasta salad, or as a dip for roasted potatoes or even pizza!

I’m a sauce loving gal through and through. If I have one or two homemade sauces or dressings on hand, I feel like all is well in the world. It’s pretty easy to whip up a meal with a protein, carb, and vegetable component if there’s a tasty sauce to tie everything together. That’s why I have an ever growing collection of dressings, dips, and sauces for you to explore.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Simple: With just a handful of ingredients–Greek yogurt, pesto, lemon juice, honey, garlic, salt, and pepper–this sauce can be made in under three minutes. Perfect for summer days when you don’t want to spend much time in the kitchen!
    • Protein-Packed: Greek yogurt is rich in protein, and a serving of this sauce packs about 5 grams of protein. Not bad for a sauce!
    • Flavourful: You’ll love the fresh, tangy, salty notes of this sauce.

    Ingredients

Below is a photo and some notes about each of the ingredients. Scroll down to the recipe card for exact quantities.

process photo of all of the ingredients before they are mixed together
    • Pesto: While you can use store-bought pesto in a pinch, I recommend using homemade pesto for the best flavour.
    • Greek yogurt: I used 2% Greek yogurt but feel free to use whole milk Greek yogurt if you prefer.
    • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice adds a tangy flavour to the sauce. Even though the pesto has some lemon in it already, more lemon juice is necessary for a flavourful sauce.
    • Honey: Helps to balance the flavours. It doesn’t make the sauce taste sweet, I promise!
    • Garlic: Adds flavour. If you prefer not to use fresh garlic, you can use ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
    • Salt and pepper: Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper are essential for balancing and bringing out flavour.

    Instructions

Step 1: Combine the pesto, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, honey, garlic, salt, and pepper together in a bowl.

Step 2: Stir to combine and serve!

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Make it Mexican-inspired: Instead of basil lemon pesto, make cilantro lime pesto. Use lime juice instead of lemon juice in the sauce. This would be delicious with Mexican meals like burritos, tacos, and bowls!
    • Make it dairy-free: Use non-dairy Greek yogurt.
    • Vegan – Use non-dairy Greek yogurt and swap out the honey for maple syrup.

    Kitchen Tools

    • Bowl
    • Measuring cups
    • Measuring spoons

    Storage

Store this sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.

    Top Tips

Season to taste! Add additional lemon juice, honey, and salt if desired.

Thin the sauce as desired. This sauce is on the thicker side, but feel free to thin it out with some milk for a more dressing-like consistency.

    • Sauce for a bowl: I love it with brown rice, sliced chicken breast, and a tomato cucumber salad for the perfect summer bowl!
    • Pasta salad dressing: Toss it with cooked short pasta such as fusilli or rotini, cherry tomatoes, corn, peppers, and any other vegetables you like for a simple vegetarian pasta salad.
    • Pizza dip: Enough said.
    • Dip for roasted potatoes
    • Drizzle over roasted veggies

    Description

Simple, flavourful, and versatile Greek Yogurt Pesto Sauce makes a delicious vegetable dip, pasta sauce, salad dressing, or bowl topping. Whip up a big batch and enjoy it all week long.

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 1 cup Greek yogurt
    • ½ cup pesto (I recommend this Nut-Free Basil Pesto)
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon honey
    • 1 large garlic clove, minced
    • ½ teaspoon sea salt
    • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

    Instructions

    1. Place all ingredients in a bowl.
    2. Stir well to combine. If desired, thin the sauce with a few tablespoons of milk, especially if you’d like to use it as a dressing.

    Notes

Storage: Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.

Ways to serve it: Use this versatile sauce as a bowl topping, a dip for pizza, veggies, or roasted potatoes/fries, a pasta salad dressing, or a green salad dressing. The sky is the limit here.
