A month in review: a recap of August at UpBeet Kitchen, plus the recipe for a cozy, energizing Vegan “Bulletproof” Mocha. Feel free to read the whole post, or jump straight to the recipe if you prefer. 🙂
Where did August go? Surely I’m not the only one sitting here feeling like I blinked and September had arrived?
I’m not complaining, mind you–fall happens to be my favourite season. Bring on the crisp days, warm drinks, and cozy vibes. I’m ready.
Overall, August was a productive and enjoyable month. In between working at my ‘real’ job, I enjoyed creating lots of recipes, learning my new camera, family time, dinners with my girls, and long bike rides.
Running took a backseat for most of July and August, but I’ve started to work my way back into it and feel positively blissful every time I go out for a spin along the river. Nothing like a break to renew your love of something. 🙂
Here are some August highlights in images:
Breakfast outside…
Easy suppers, like this vegan charcuterie board…
Letting go of relationships that did not serve me (this graphic helped me to work through my feelings)…
Quiet time spent in nature…
Picnic with my momma (Whole Foods salads, Mary’s crackers, hummus, kombucha)…
Enjoying some really good craft beer…
A song I’m loving:
It was popular the summer I moved to Victoria (2014), which incidentally was five years ago to the month. :0
Something that broke my heart: Revisiting the neighbourhood I grew up in and witnessing the destruction of the forest that first sparked my reverence for the natural world. The forest is being destroyed for yet another cookie cutter housing development. My heart breaks at the destruction not only of wildlife habitat (I had my closest encounters with deer, frogs, birds, and coyotes in that forest), but of a place for children to connect with nature. How else will they grow up with an understanding of the need to stand up for our Mother Earth?
I’m hoping that you have found time for the things that bring you joy this month. I’ll be back tomorrow with an easy vegan ice cream recipe that I think you’ll dig. Until then, enjoy this mocha!
