Vegan Chocolate Protein Smoothie Bowl

  • Scant 3/4 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk
  • 1 large or 2 small frozen bananas, chopped
  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts (hulled hemp seeds)
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1/4 of a medium ripe avocado
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp almond butter or nut/seed butter of choice
  • 1 scoop vegan vanilla-flavoured protein powder (see blog post for recommendations)


  1. Place all ingredients in an upright blender and blend until smooth. The mixture should be quite thick.
  2. Transfer to a bowl and top with desired accompaniments: seasonal fruit, granola, cereal, nut/seed butter, and hemp.
