Vegan Chocolate Almond Butter Mousse

A healthy vegan chocolate avocado mousse recipe featuring almond butter, maple syrup, and melted dark chocolate. Heart healthy and full of vitamin E, it’ll make you look and feel radiant.

Chocolate Avocado Almond Mousse Recipe (part pudding, part mousse)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found plain old chocolate avocado pudding to be a bit lacklustre. Sure, the cocoa and maple syrup masquerade the avocado flavour somewhat, but there’s still no denying its presence within. I have nothing against avocado, but I definitely don’t want to taste it in my dessert.

Still, avocado has impressive health properties, boasting high levels of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat and skin healthy vitamin E. If I can cover up its flavour, I’m all in favour of including it in my desserts! In this vegan chocolate almond butter mousse recipe, you’ll reap the benefits of avocado, but it isn’t prominent at all since there’s a hefty amount of almond butter, melted chocolate, and maple syrup blended in, too. šŸ™‚

This recipe is forgiving and versatile. If you don’t want to use almond butter, swap it out for peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, or cashew butter! Not feeling maple syrup? Use an equal amount of coconut sugar, pitted Medjool dates, or raw honey, instead.

You can use your imagination when it comes to toppings, too. I kept it simple with a sprinkle of pomegranate arils, but whipped coconut cream, granola, and berries would also be tasty. You could even crumble some of my cashew butter cookie dough energy balls on top if you’re feeling wild and crazy.

The nice thing about this healthy vegan chocolate mousse is that you can enjoy it completely guilt-free (not that eating dessert should ever induce guilt, but it is nice to know that what you are eating has some redeeming qualities). All of the ingredients in this dessert are totally healthy–even maple syrup is packed with minerals like magnesium, which relaxes the muscles and promotes heart health.

If you don’t make it immediately, you can save this heart healthy dessert recipe for Valentine’s Day.

My mouth is watering. How do I make this chocolate almond butter mousse you speak of?

I’m glad that you asked! Making this recipe couldn’t be easier. To begin, you’ll melt some chocolate chips on the stove. Set up your food processor and place pitted avocados, cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla extract, sea salt, and the melted chocolate chips in the bowl. Process until ultra smooth and creamy, and either serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

I hope that you love this recipe! If you make it, leave a comment and review below, and tag a photo @upbeet.kitchen and #upbeetkitchen on Instagram.

Enjoy!

No one will know that this chocolate almond butter mousse is totally free from dairy and eggs! Almond butter and melted chocolate mask the flavour of avocado perfectly in this heart healthy vegan dessert.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 medium avocados, pitted
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup almond butter
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat.
  2. Scoop the flesh of the avocado into the bowl of a food processor fitted with the ‘S’ blade. Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla, sea salt, and melted chocolate chips.
  3. Blend until totally smooth and creamy.
  4. Transfer the mixture into 4 serving dishes/ramekins and top with desired accompaniments. Fruit, granola, and whipped coconut cream are all delicious options.
  5. If you want to make the pudding ahead of time, simply store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
